Meet the Vendor: Hummingbird Gifts & More

In the two weeks before her death, Martha Raye McCoy liked to sit on the front porch of her Archdale home, enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of the outside world. Her family, who joined Martha in these final moments, noticed that one particular hummingbird visited the porch almost daily, hovering by Martha’s flowers—as if paying her a special visit.

Martha’s granddaughter, forty-one-year-old Randolph County native Meyakka Luckey, graduated from Trinity High School in 2003, attended community college for medical billing and coding, and currently works as an administrative assistant for a home care agency. A loving wife and mother, Meyakka has been married for twenty-two years and has a soon-to-be twenty-one-year-old son with her husband. Having inherited Martha’s love of crafting, Meyakka opened her own small business, Hummingbird Gifts & More—named in honor of her grandmother—in October of 2025.

With Hummingbird Gifts & More, Meyakka explores her creativity in a range of handmade items, including keychains, pens, badge reels, lanyards, bottle openers, wine stoppers, and more. Incorporating a wide array of materials into her creative process—acrylic, silicone, plastic, canvas, and wood—Meyakka is an expert at letting the inspiration flow. She loves to see the smile on customers’ faces whenever they find a piece that resonates with them. “It’s like they get a small piece of grandma’s love,” Meyakka says, reflecting on her favorite part of owning Hummingbird Gifts & More.

Meyakka became a vendor at Minkology earlier this year, intrigued by the opportunity to showcase her items in a brick-and-mortar store. She loves the access to community that the shop offers. “I feel supported and welcomed each time I walk through the door.”

Since joining our team of vendors at Minkology, Meyakka has been inspired to add canvas bags, t-shirts, and other new items to her inventory, and she hopes to expand her selection of offerings further as she continues to grow the business.
