Meet the Vendor: Untangled Creations Co.

A sampling of Myranda McPherson's macrame creations.

Myranda McPherson is eighteen years old and a recent high school graduate who loves playing volleyball and spending time with her beloved goldendoodle and cat. She is also the entrepreneur behind Untangled Creations Co., a macrame vendor supplying customers at Minkology with a wide array of hand-crafted string goods.

You might find yourself asking how this teenager managed to begin a successful small business at such a young age. Myranda’s love of crafting started when she was eight years old. Her mother was trying to think of quiet activities to fill the summer. She taught Myranda how to make a few different kinds of friendship bracelets, and from then on Myranda was never seen without a substantial stack of her own creations tied to her wrists and ankles. When she was only fifteen, Myranda took her bracelets to a craft market for the first time and was extremely successful in selling her designs.

After the market, Myranda’s mother showed her some pictures of macrame keychains, wall hangings, and other string projects. “I think you could probably figure that out, too,” her mother said, so the next day Myranda ordered macrame string and supplies on Amazon and set out to master a new craft. The next year, she returned to the same craft market selling her macrame goods, and thus Untangled Creations Co. was born!

While Untangled Creations Co. isn't Myranda’s full-time job, she enjoys it as a fun and relaxing side hustle in her downtime. Usually, her creative process involves scouring YouTube for unique, exciting designs to which she can add her own personal touch, then bringing them to life and giving them as gifts or selling them at craft markets and fairs. She loves running her own business because it allows her to make artwork she feels confident about while fulfilling her own business ideas and plans rather than someone else’s.

Myranda was excited to join Minkology’s team of vendors last year because the shop allows her to leave her pieces there to sell while going about her normal life. Selling her items at Minkology doesn’t require her to sacrifice her education or other work pursuits to maintain a creative and successful side hustle. “What I love most about Minkology is that it's a spot where they WANT you to sell your stuff and are constantly doing things on their end to help you make sales,” she says.

Going forward, Myranda says she would love to start working more directly with customers for custom designs and commissioned projects. Some of the markets she has attended previously have allowed her to collaborate more intimately with customers, but she says it is one of her goals to get to know her clients better so that she can continue making items that bring joy into their lives.

To commission a custom project, call or stop by to ask one of our Minkologists to reach out to Myranda on your behalf. She can’t wait to hear from you!
